HAVEN RIVERFRONT RESTAURANT & BAR MANHATTAN-STYLE DINING WITHOUT CROSSING THE RIVER
While One Park’s proximity to the world’s most famous city is one of its most appealing amenities, residents will also appreciate the vibrant shopping and dining scene located even closer to home along the New Jersey side of the Hudson River waterfront. HAVEN, an exciting new waterfront culinary experience, epitomizes the area’s burgeoning dining destination where epicurean delights blend with breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline.
When they wanted to open up HAVEN Riverfront Restaurant and Bar four years, ago, managing partner Kerri-Ann Sweeten says she and her business partner were looking to create a casual, fine dining spot that was also a neighborhood hangout.
It just happens that it’s a neighborhood hangout with one of the most spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline on the New Jersey Gold Coast and a Modern New American menu that runs from the luxe in the dining room (the “Around the World Oyster tasting,”) to comfort food like cavatelli mac and cheese on the bar menu.
Sweeten and her partner, Jerry Maher, had previously owned 3 Forty Grill in Hoboken, which she described as more aligned with that city’s nightlife scene. While she enjoyed that lifestyle, Sweeten says HAVEN’S more relaxed – yet luxury – vibe is a perfect fit for Edgewater and the surrounding area. Located just a stone’s throw away from One Park off Edgewater’s River Road, which is also home to upscale shopping, eateries, cafes, and services, HAVEN is likely a perfect fit for One Park residents as well.
“We called it HAVEN because we wanted it to be your safe haven,” she says.
A safe haven where one of the brunch favorites is a short rib and hash brown benedict with poached eggs and a sweet pimento bearnaise sauce. A standout on the dinner menu remains the seafood risotto with organic heirloom black rice, lobster, sea scallops, shrimp, sea beans, sweet corn, and mascarpone cheese.
“We have people who have been coming in for that for years,” Sweeten says. As Edgewater has developed, Sweeten says she’s seen a tremendous amount of change.
“When we first started here, I’d be here at 3 a.m. wondering if we had made a mistake because there was so little traffic coming through, but now it’s incredible, the whole area has just exploded,” she says. “It’s awesome.”
There is seating for 140 inside the restaurant and another 72 in the outdoor cafe, and there is also a small private room (seating for up to 32) for parties.
“One of the things I really love is that we have people who come here from everywhere,” she says. “The view really sells it, especially if you are planning something special. We love that it’s a great place for a special event, but also a great place if you’ve been hitting the sales at Home Goods and just want to grab a burger.”
